Keelung Funeral Parlor, started to be built in September
1977, is located at the entry of Nan-Jung Cemetery of
Keelung City, and operated formally on Nov. 27, 1982.
From the Japanese Colonial Period, Keelung Nan-Jung
Cemetery has already had the current scope. The land
of the said public cemetery was donated by the residents
in the surname of Yang and Lai. The area is quite wide,
about 96 hectares, with small basins within it. It's
at the outskirts of the downtown area, and near the
left side of the former Kee-pei Highway.
After the restoration from Japanese occupation, when
it's taken over by the government, there was a crematorium
constructed by the Japanese, and it covered an area
of some 200 pings. Under the management of the government,
a memorial tower, a memorial pagoda, two pavilions,
and six large/small flower beds were constructed, and
the cemetery was divided into general cemetery, pauper
cemetery, and park-like cemetery.
On April 17, 2000, the two units of "Keelung Funeral
Parlor," and "The Crematory Services Administration
of Keelung City Nan-Jung Cemetery" was merged into
the "Keelung Mortuary Services Administration"
which was first subordinated to the Keelung City Government's
Bureau of Social Affairs, and then, subordinated to
Keelung City Government's Bureau of Civil Administration
in January, 2005.
